1 - Introducing MembersOwn Credit Union

Our new name is MembersOwn Credit Union effective September 23, 2009.

We chose MembersOwn Credit Union because you, our members, "own" the credit union. Your are the owners and we are here to provide you with excellent products, great interest rates and outstanding member service. We want you to be proud to say that you are a part of this organization and that this is your "own" financial institution..

We look forward to continuing our tradition of helping members be financially successful at the financial institution they own. Over the next few months, we will be completely revising our website to bring you a more functional and user friendly web site. 4 - How Much Debt is Too Much?

Too much debt is like playing with fire. As a rule of thumb, your debt, excluding your home, should not exceed 20% of your take-home pay. Second mortgages and home equity loans should be included in the 20% rule. This is because they are usually used to pay off unsecured debt, while a first mortgage is an investment in property that, in most cases, is appreciating in value.

Even if your debt is only in the high teens you may still have too much debt. A financial counselor can often help you understand your finances and learn the appropiate limits.

Are you "paying only the minimum required amount?" - "using cash advances to pay bills?" - "being contacted about delinquent bills?" These could be signs of problems on the horizon.

Look for patterns and be aware. If it is something temporary, don't panic. If it is more serious, be honest with yourself and seek financial advise.

6 - Scholarship Contest - $2,850 to be Awarded!

"How do members profit from using their credit union?" is the 500-word essay topic of this year's Credit Union's for Higher Education Scholarship Contest.

The contest is open to members who are high school seniors, college or trade school students and will be either full or part-time students for the academic year 2010-2011.

Entry deadline is march 26th. Call either the Beatrice or Lincoln offices for more details or download the instructional Scholarship PDF.

7 - Thank You for Your Generosity!

Thanks to our members who generously donated toys and cash to the Stocking Stuffer program, those that participated in the Letters From Santa, and members who donated food items to the Salvation Army drive in Beatice.

These worthy causes benefitted greatly from your efforts. You have helped make a difference in the lives of Nebraska's children and their families this holiday season.

9- We've Opened our Membership!

Love your credit union? Tell your friends, neighbors and family - now anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Lancaster or Gage Counties in Nebraska can join MembersOwn Credit Union. Also anyone in your immediate family (brothers, sisters, parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren, etc.) is eligible to join.

This is great news as they can now receive all of the same great services and products you've grown to know and love (and depend on). Don't keep us a secret, share your success.

10 - We're Going Green!

Save paper & time with e-Notices and e-Alerts!

MembersOwn Credit Union is in the process of adding e-Notices to our online services. Instead of waiting for the mail to receive notices about your account, you will be able to view them online through e-Branch.

We are currently sending e-Notices out for non-sufficient funds notices on checking accounts and certificate notices. Once you are signed up, if a notice needs your attention, you will receive a reminder e-mail. You then log in to e-Branch to view the specific notice.

E-Alerts are an e-mail or text message that you can customize that is sent to your cell phone. You can receive daily account balances; when a loan payment is due; when a specific check number clears; when your account balance is near a specific balance or you can set up customizable monthly reminders for any item you choose.

Sign up for these FREE services through e-Branch. That's right, these new options do not cost you anything, plus you can feel good about reducing our use of paper and the impact of transporting and delivering the notices.
